My Photography Story

"So, how did you get into photography?" This has got to be one of the questions I get asked most often and I usually just reply to it with a very, very abbreviated version of how I did... But this time I decided that I would give my very, very UN-abbreviated version :)

Let's start at square one....the first time I used an SLR camera... My lovely sister Ruth had just gotten engaged to her (now) husband Matt. She wanted to do some engagement pictures to go with their wedding invitation so she asked me if I would take some for them. We went out and she handed me her Digital Canon Rebel....I had absolutely no idea what I was doing....She told me to just keep it on "auto" and to just shoot away...So, I did!

People who saw the pictures I took told me I had "a good eye for photography." I didn't really believe them...but it made me want to learn more about photography and how to actually use a camera without just keeping it on "auto". Well, that's not where my story ends! My sister Ruth had Lauren Clark take her bridal pictures and I got to tag along to help out! I was inspired watching Lauren work and seeing how the pictures turned out...they were breathtaking... Needless to say, that made me REALLY want to get into photography and later that year I took some photography classes through a community college. I used a film camera for those classes and I am SO glad I did! A couple months later I got my first digital SLR camera...A Canon Rebel XTI Woot! I was so excited the day I got it that I had my little brother be my model so I could try it out :)

After I got my digital camera I started taking pictures here and there for friends and family...The first time I took pictures for someone I didn't know I was sooo nervous...I must have taken at least 300 pictures because I was afraid that only a couple would turn out! {grin}

I think I have come a long way since then...:) (Or I hope I have) My husband and I moved to Sherman in May of '09 and I have been trying to build up a photography business here.

My photography business is just getting started but I want to honor God with it. I hope that when people meet or hear about me they can see God working in and through me to bless other peoples lives as I have been blessed. I don't know if having a full-time photography business is in God's plan for me, but whatever He has planned I know it will be best (Jeremiah 29:11)...even if my business stays small and I am mostly just photographing friends and family I still hope that my photography will be a blessing to others.
